About the Artist:

Al Hering grew up in Cleveland Ohio, where lake-effect snow gave him frequent snow days. He put those days to good use, sketching and studying art at the Cleveland Institute of Art. While living there, the Cuyahoga River caught on fire twice and the Mayor's hair once. With that, he decided it was time to go, so he headed east to study art at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Upon graduation, he was discovered by the many advertising and editorial offices of New York. He spent a lot of time on Madison Avenue and in Grand Central Station where panhandlers regularly hit him up for money. He was mugged and chased down Brooklyn Streets on numerous occasions.

He is a freelance illustrator and cartoonist with many years of experience in advertising, publishing and new media. He enjoys working in the humorous vein, but his work can also be charming, offbeat, deranged, thought provoking and just plain wacky. Some of his best work can be seen on these pages.

He has created whimsical illustrations for Time/Warner, The Boston Globe, Business Week and Readers Digest. Other clients have included IBM, Burger King, General Mills, U.S. Postal Service, Weekly Reader and Scholastic. He lives and works in the Hudson River Valley, upstate New York.
